The recent launch of the Chips JU call on Advanced Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) is an important step forward in PIC development and adoption by industry. PICs are a key enabling technology for a wide range of applications and markets including Automotive, Data & Telecom, Quantum, LiDAR, Biosensors, among others. The future pilot line aims at developing and enhancing a scalable manufacturing process for PICs.
PhotonixFAB emerges as a pioneer in PIC development and scaling. The project aims at developing and strengthening the EU open market with industrial-grade and mass-production scalable SiN and SOI PIC platforms, enhanced with InP and LN heterogeneous integration capabilities. The photonixFAB consortium is made up of major public and private enterprises, plus highly respected research institutes – all focusing on the development and production of next-generation silicon photonics. Certainly, there will be many potential synergies between photonixFAB and the newly launched photonics pilot line initiative!
